WE ARE HIRING
Help us build a ministry where the whole church invests in the next generation!
Now Hiring: Part-Time Children's Ministry Director
About ONE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE
ONE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE is a multicultural church serving the Lake Houston area. We are committed to reaching people from diverse backgrounds, building meaningful relationships, and helping individuals and families grow in their faith. With both English and Spanish-speaking services, we value a church community where people from different cultures worship, serve, and grow together. We believe children's ministry is more than a Sunday morning program. It is an opportunity for the entire church to invest in the spiritual development of children and families.
Position Overview
ONE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE is seeking a passionate, organized, and relational leader to serve as our part-time Children's Ministry Director, with an anticipated start date of January 2027.
We are looking for someone who can recruit, equip, encourage, and empower people to serve the next generation. Our goal is to build a healthy, sustainable ministry where the congregation is actively involved in helping children grow in their faith.
The Children's Ministry Director will provide leadership and oversight for the entire children's ministry, including nursery, early childhood, and elementary. This individual will focus on developing teams, equipping leaders, coordinating ministry efforts, and ensuring that every area operates effectively.
The goal is not for one person to do all the work, but to make sure the work is done well through a well-equipped and engaged ministry team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruit, Equip, and Develop Ministry Teams
Recruit volunteers from across the congregation and help more people discover their role in serving the next generation.
Train, encourage, and support ministry team members so they can serve with confidence.
Develop team leaders and empower them to take ownership of their areas of responsibility.
Maintain a healthy, engaged team of volunteers through consistent communication, personal follow-up, encouragement, and ongoing recruitment.
Identify volunteer needs and develop strategies to keep teams adequately staffed.
Cultivate a culture where serving in children's ministry is a meaningful part of our church's mission and discipleship.
2. Lead and Oversee the Entire Children's Ministry
Provide oversight for all children's ministry environments, including nursery, early childhood, and elementary.
Ensure Sunday morning and Wednesday night programming is organized, well-staffed, safe, and engaging.
Coordinate curriculum, schedules, supplies, classroom environments, and ministry resources.
Establish clear expectations, communication practices, and systems that help ministry teams function effectively.
Ensure each ministry area has the leadership, support, and resources necessary to succeed.
Empower team members to carry out their responsibilities while maintaining accountability for the overall health and effectiveness of the ministry.
3. Coordinate Special Events and Seasonal Activities
Plan and coordinate major children's ministry events throughout the year, including the Fall Festival and Christmas outreach.
Organize summer activities and opportunities for children during school breaks.
Recruit and coordinate teams from across the congregation to plan and execute these events.
Develop clear plans, schedules, and responsibilities to ensure events are safe, organized, and effective.
Use special events as opportunities to connect with families, serve the community, and invite others into the life of the church.
4. Support Children's Discipleship and Family Engagement
Ensure biblical teaching and curriculum are age-appropriate and consistent with the beliefs and mission of ONE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE.
Help create environments where children can learn about Jesus, build relationships, and grow in their faith.
Build relationships with parents and families and communicate ministry goals, needs, and opportunities.
Promote consistency and continuity from nursery through elementary.
Encourage parents and the congregation to take an active role in the spiritual development of children.
Provide teaching or direct ministry leadership when needed, without making regular personal teaching the primary responsibility of the position.
5. Maintain Safe, Organized, and Effective Ministry Operations
Ensure compliance with church child protection policies and safety procedures.
Coordinate appropriate screening, background checks, and training for ministry team members.
Maintain effective systems for scheduling, check-in and check-out, classroom supervision, and communication.
Plan ahead for ministry needs and address challenges proactively.
Communicate regularly with church leadership regarding ministry progress, needs, and opportunities.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a genuine passion for helping children grow in their faith.
Demonstrates strong leadership, organizational, and relational skills.
Enjoys recruiting, developing, and encouraging people.
Can build and maintain healthy teams rather than relying on personal effort alone.
Communicates clearly and works well with parents, ministry team members, and church leadership.
Is proactive, dependable, organized, and committed to following through on responsibilities.
Supports the mission, vision, and doctrinal commitments of ONE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE.
Demonstrates a commitment to child safety and appropriate ministry practices.
Previous children's ministry experience is preferred. Experience leading teams, coordinating programs, or developing volunteers in a church or similar setting will also be considered.
Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are a plus, given our multicultural congregation and the families we serve.
A ministerial license or ordination is not required. We are seeking a capable ministry leader with the character, skills, and passion to help our children's ministry thrive.
